How to Find the Sagittarius Constellation
The skies of July and August provide an excellent view of the constellation Sagittarius. Easy to spot and filled with fascinating deep-sky objects, Sagittarius is an ideal subject of study for stargazers and astronomers alike. The constellation Sagittarius is often referred to as a teapot because of its appearance: the main boxy shape is the body of the teapot, from which a handle and a spout extend outward. Some observers add that the Milky Way appears to be rising up out of the spout like steam. Finding the Sagittarius Constellation In the northern hemisphere, Sagittarius reaches its highest point in the southern part of the sky during July and August and into early September. Sagittarius is also visible high in the northern part of the sky for regions south of the equator. Sagittarus has such a distinctive shape that its not too hard to spot in the sky. Simply look for the teapot shape next to the curved body of Scorpius the Scorpion.à Not only are these constellations filled with fascinating celestial bodies to observe, they are also on either side of the core of our galaxy, where the black hole Sgr A* lives. A chart of the sky containing Scorpius and Sagittarius. Ross 154 is a faint star in Sagittarius. Carolyn Collins Petersen All About Scorpius Sagittarius is best-known as the figure of a cosmic archer, although the Greeks saw it as a starry representation of a mythical creature called a centaur. Alternatively, some mythology identifies Sagittarius as the son of Pan, the god who created archery. His name was Crotus, and he was put into the sky by the god Zeus so that everyone could see how archery worked. (However, most viewers dont see an archer when they look at Sagittariusââ¬âthe teapot shape is far easier to identify.) The Stars of the Scorpius Constellation The entire constellation of Sagittarius shown with IAU boundaries and the brightest stars that make up the pattern. à IAU/Sky Telescope The brightest star in the constellation Sagittarius is called Kaus Australis (or Epsilon Sagittarii). The second-brightest is Sigma Sagittarii, with a common name of Nunki. Sigma (Nunki) was one of the stars that the Voyager 2 spacecraft used for navigation as it was traveling to the outer solar system to study the gas giant planets.à There are eight bright stars that make up the teapot shape of the main constellation. The rest of the constellation as outlined by the IAU boundaries has a couple of dozen more stars.à Sagittarius constellation is outlined by eight bright stars, and scattered among them are globular clusters (yellow circles), open clusters (yellow broken line circles), and nebulae (squares). Its best to search this area with a good pair of binoculars just to get an idea of the many fascinating objects in the Sagittarius region. à Carolyn Collins Petersen Selected Deep Sky Objects in Constellation Sagittarius Sagittarius is right on the plane of the Milky Way and its teapot spout points almost directly to the center of our galaxy. Because the galaxy is so well-populated in this part of the sky, observers can spot many star clusters, including a number of globular clusters and open star clusters. Globulars are spherical-shaped collections of stars, many much older than the galaxy itself. Open star clusters are not as tightly gravitationally bound as the globulars. Sagittarius also contains some lovely nebulae: clouds of gas and dust lit up by radiation from nearby stars. The most prominent objects to search out in this area of the sky are the Lagoon Nebula, the Trifid Nebula, and the globular clusters M22 and M55.à Nebulae in Sagittarius Because we look at the galaxy from inside, its very common to see clouds of gas and dust in the plane of the Milky Way. This is especially true in Sagittarius. The Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae are the easit to spot, although they can generally only be seen well with binoculars or a small telescope. Both of these nebulae contain regions where star formation is actively taking place. Astronomers see both newborn stars as well as protostellar objects in these regions, which helps them track the process of starbirth. The Trifid is also known as Messier 20 and has been studied by many ground-based observatories as well as Hubble Space Telescope. It will look somewhat dim but should be easy to spot in a small telescope. Its name comes from the fact that it looks like a little pool next to the brighter regions of the Milky Way. The Trifid looks like it has three lobes connected together. They lie just over four thousand light-years away from us.à The Trifid Nebula in full glorious color provided by the European Southern Observatory. Smaller telescopes will not show these colors, but a long-exposure photograph will. à European Southern Observatory Globular Clusters in Sagittarius Globular clusters are satellites of the Milky Way Galaxy. They often contain hundreds, thousands, or sometimes millions of stars, all tightly bound together by gravity. M22 (which is the 22nd objects in Charles Messiers list of Faint fuzzy objects that he compiled in the 18th century), was first discovered in 1665 and contains about 300,000 stars all packed together in a region of space about 50 light-years across.à This view of the globular cluster M22 in Sagittarius was taken using an amateur telescope. à Hunter Wilson, via Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike 3.0 Another interesting globular cluster is also in Sagittarius. Its called M55, and was discovered in 1752. It contains just under 300,000 stars all gathered into an area bout 48 light-years across. It lies nearly 18,000 light-years away from us. Search out Sagittarius for other clusters and nebulae, especially using a pair of binoculars or a small telescope.

The Goal Of Consumer Research Essay - 1402 Words
An ecosystem is an integrated system of different participants that rely on one another. In consumer research, it is almost impossible to isolate one of the many factors that make up the field of consumer research. The goal of consumer research is to learn about consumer behavior. Quantitative research, qualitative research, and ethnography each have many pros and cons, and create a full, clear picture when used together. Each method provides an integral piece of the consumer puzzle; one cannot see the entire, finished image without each method. The following is an overview of the research methods and how they can be applied to this case study. Quantitative research: study data based responses obtained through things like consumer surveys. Quant data also includes big data which provides marketers with zoomed out data that clearly indicates consumer trends. Looking at big data trends can indicate where and when both Skinny and Nasty Girl products are being purchased and by whom. This could give marketers insight into what demographics are interested in their product (i.e. socioeconomic status, education, family structure, age, etc.). While this data would indicate clear trends, it would not help marketers to understand why consumers are making their decisions. Qualitative Research: driven by asking personal questions to determine why a consumer phenomenon happens. This can happen through interviews and focus groups. Understanding why consumers make their decisions isShow MoreRelatedMarketing and Career Aspirations Essay1284 Words à |à 6 Pagesmarketing research. Analysis Of Schindler s List, And Benigni s Life Is...
Throughout history, a very small amount of women have made their way into myths, and legend as heroes rather they are portrayed as the seductress, or some other secondary character. Even today, we still live in a male dominated society, where women are still being underrepresented, and even misrepresented. While there are many works of art that have women as the main subject, they are often depicted as mothers, victims, sexual beings, or shown as pure, and innocent. We rarely get to see women playing the dominant roles. Holocaust art works are no stranger to this theme. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting how females are depicted in Spielbergââ¬â¢s Schindlerââ¬â¢s List, and Benigniââ¬â¢s Life is Beautiful. While the Oscar nominated movies, Schindlerââ¬â¢s List and Life is Beautiful, both fail to represent women in the spotlight as main characters, each movie seem to choose different ways and use different techniques to depict women. In Schindlerââ¬â ¢s List, the portrayal of women are the stereotypical passive women quite the opposite to Life is Beautiful where we see more dominant and independent women. It is clear from the beginning that both movies are told from a male perspective. We start off with Schindlerââ¬â¢s wife, Emilie Schindler, played by Caroline Goodall. In the movie she is portrayed as a filial wife who comes to Germany to be with her womanizing husband. We can see from her actions that she a very patient woman who loves Schindler unconditionally, even as he
Kepler Mission Free Essays
What is the Kepler mission? Many people donââ¬â¢t even know what is going on here on earth let alone in space. The Kepler mission is searching the skies for planets that are the same size as earth and worlds that could possibly similar to our own (Site 1). The Kepler spacecraft has found over 750 candidates for extra solar planets and that is just from data collected in the first 43 days of the spacecraftââ¬â¢s observations. We will write a custom essay sample on Kepler Mission or any similar topic only for you Order Now This is the biggest release of candidate planets that has ever happened. This is amazing; just imagine if there is that many other planets like earth with human life on it. The Kepler team has found so many candidates, they are sharing. They will keep the top 400 candidates to verify and confirm with observations using other telescopes with observations done by Kepler team members (Site 2). Us as human being can only think and wonder if there is life outside of this planet. The Kepler mission is our chance to find out. Kepler launched on March 6, 2009, and has been on the hunt for exoplanets (Site 2). The Kepler instrument is a specially designed 0. 95-meter diameter telescope called a photometer or light meter. It has a very large field of view for an astronomical telescope 105 square degrees, which is comparable to the area of your hand held at armââ¬â¢s length. The fields of view of most telescopes are less than one square degree. Kepler needs the large field of view in order to observe the large number of stars. It stares at the same star field for the entire mission and continuously and simultaneously monitors the brightnessââ¬â¢s of more than 100,000 stars for at least 3. years, the initial length of the mission, which can be extended (Site 1). Extending the mission beyond three and one half years provides for improving the signal to noise by combining more transits to permit detection of smaller planets. Another reason why extending the mission is good is to find planets in orbits with larger periods. Also to find planets around stars that are noisier either due to be ing fainter or having more variability The scientific objective of the Kepler Mission is to explore the structure and diversity of planetary systems. This is achieved by surveying a large sample of stars to determine the abundance of terrestrial and larger planets in or near the habitable zone of a wide variety of stars. Another objective is to determine the distribution of sizes and shapes of the orbits of these planets. Estimate how many planets there are in multiple-star systems. Determine the variety of orbit sizes and planet reflectivityââ¬â¢s, sizes, masses and densities of short-period giant planets. Also to identify additional members of each discovered planetary system using other techniques; and determine the properties of those stars that harbor planetary systems (Site 1). The Kepler Mission also supports the objectives of future NASA Origins theme missions Space Interferometry Mission (SIM) and Terrestrial Planet Finder (TPF) by identifying the common stellar characteristics of host stars for future planet searches, defining the volume of space needed for the search and allowing SIM to target systems already known to have terrestrial planet (Site 1). The Kepler mission has discovered a system of two Saturn size planets with perhaps a third planet that is only 1. 5 times the radius of Earth. While the news of this discovery is tempered somewhat with the announcement by a team from the European Southern Observatory of a system with five confirmed Neptune-sized planets and perhaps two additional smaller planets, both discoveries highlight that the spacecraft and techniques astronomers are using to find exoplanets are getting the desired results, and excitingly exoplanet research now includes the study of multiplanet systems. This discovery is the first time multiple planets were found by looking at transit time variations, which can provide more information about planets, such as their masses (Site 2). NASA held a press conference to discuss early science results of the Kepler Mission on August 6, 2009. At this press conference, it was revealed that Kepler has confirmed the existence of the previously-known transiting exoplanet HAT-P-7b, and is functioning well enough to discover Earth-size planets. Since Keplerââ¬â¢s detection of planets depends on seeing very small changes in brightness, stars that vary in brightness all by themselves are not useful in this search. From the first few months of data, Kepler scientists have determined that about 7500 stars from the initial target list are such variable stars. These were dropped from the target list and will be replaced by new candidates. On November 4, 2009, the Kepler project publicly released the light curves of the dropped stars. Ground-based follow-up studies of the first six weeks of data, reveal five previously unknown planets, all very close to their stars, one (Kepler-4b) slightly larger than Neptune and four (Kepler-5b, 6b, 7b, and 8b) larger than Jupiter, including one (Kepler-7b), that is one of the least dense planets found yet. Another discovery, not yet understood, are at least two objects that are the size of planets, but hotter than their stars (Site 2). In conclusion, the Kepler mission I believe is the first of its kind that is actually working. The significance of the Kepler mission is very important. Kepler will monitor 100,000 stars similar to our sun for four years. The results will be extremely important either way. If Kepler detects many habitable, Earth-size planets, it could mean the universe is full of life. Kepler would then be a stepping stone to the next extensive search for habitable planets and life, the Terrestrial Planet Finder (Site 3). If nothing is found, it may mean weââ¬â¢re alone in the galaxy. Bibliography Site 1: ââ¬Å"Kepler. â⬠Nasa. Ames Research Center, Web. 28 Nov. 2010. http://kepler. nasa. gov/. Wwii Essay, Research Paper World War II It is of import that people of all ages learn about World War II. This is a war that non merely killed the most soldiers in any war of all time fought, but besides changed the U.S. economically. The U.S. was merely acquiring over the Great Depression and were be aftering to remain impersonal in all international personal businesss. But the engagement in World War II brought the U.S. together as a state. Both race and gender in the work force became equal and occupations became huge. Many immature work forces and adult females risked their lives to contend for this great state. Those that survived the war were honored for their bravery and courage, yet others were non as lucky to do it through the war, but were besides honored. A twenty-four hours known as Veteran # 8217 ; s Day is celebrated every twelvemonth on November 11th to honour those who courageously fought in this annihilating war. The more people know about World War II, the more they get an inside expression at what their grandparents went through during these unsmooth times and that # 8217 ; s of import to cognize. The history of your household # 8217 ; s yesteryear. As I researched this subject, I found many helpful articles. For illustration, at www.nara.gov/exhall/people/people.html, I found out everything, from what happened before the war, what happened during the war, and how it ended. It stated: Fifty-six old ages have passed since World War II, the greatest and most destructive war in history, occurred. It lasted from 1939-1945 and an estimated 25 million soldiers, both enemies and Alliess, were killed. By far the most endangering event and cause of the war was the outgrowth of Hitler in Germany. He believed that Germany should spread out in order to convey within it all Europeans of German nationality. Another dictator who caused tenseness in Europe was Mussolini. With success, he conquered Ethiopia and Page 2 made it an Italian economic settlement. Japan besides attempted to spread out itself and suppress what they could in Asia. France and Great Britain did what they could to maintain the peace with Germany but were unsuccessful. On Sept.1,1939, Hitler # 8217 ; s invasion on Poland caused England and France to declare war on Germany. On Sept.3,1939. Because of Hitler # 8217 ; s hatred for the Jews, six million were exterminated in their fatherland of Poland. Hitler besides attempted to suppress Russia but failed because of the harsh conditions. His ground forces could non get the better of it. Although Hitler he non suppress Russia, he succeeded in suppressing many other states such as the Czech. Republic and Austria. He was going a really fearful autocrat who was unstoppable. On Sept.5,1939, president Franklin D. Roosevelt declared neutrality. The U.S. did non desire to go involved in international personal businesss. One major event that lead the U.S. to acquire involved in the war was the onslaught on Pearl Harbor in 1941. The Japanese, under the leading of Yamamoto, had a huge Southern Operation to assail Pearl Harbor, the East Indies, Malay, the Phillippines, Guam, and Malaya. Germany, Italy, and Japan were all axis states that were contending against the Alliess in Europe. The U.S. and great Britain, under the leading of Winston Churchill, declared war on Japan on Dec.8. Germany and Italy so de clared war on the U.S. on Dec.11. The U.S. now had to fix itself for war. Traveling into war affected the U.S. in many ways. Family life changed vastly. Many adult females began to work while many other immature work forces and adult females enlisted in the ground forces. Job chances became huge. The makings because of race and gender changed. This brought peole together because they worked every bit. Although adult females were Page 3 non allowed to take part in conflict, they did served in the alleged # 8220 ; noncombat # 8221 ; missions. Thursdaies missions frequently proved to be really unsafe. Womans who enlisted knew what htey were acquiring into, but were still willing to contend for their state. World War II dragged on until the spring of 1945. American forces continued to force the German Army due east. It was merely a affair of clip before they made contact with the Russian ground forces. The first meeting took topographic point near the town of Strehla on April 25,1945. On April 30,1945, Hitler knew he had been defeated and committed self-destruction. On May 7, Germany unconditionally surrendered and signed the resignation footings in Berlin, Germany. The creative activity of the atomic bomb caused many issues to be brought up on whether or non to usage this as a arm on enemies of the U.S. Scientists of the Manhattan Project had been working uneasily throughout the war to develop the atomic bomb before the Germans did. The new arm was foremost tested on the land in the comeuppances of New Mexico. No one knew if this bomb could be dropped from an aircraft without jeopardizing the lives of the crew. The unit selected for this unsafe mission was the 509th Composite Group commanded by Colonel Paul W. Tibbets. He flew the first atomic bomb mission to Hiroshima on August 6,1945. A 2nd bomb was dropped on Nagasaki on August 9,1945. Within a hebdomad, Japan sued for peace. The Nipponese authorities announced their willingness to give up within a hebdomad of the dropping of the two atomic bombs. This was another joyous triumph for the U.S. The soldiers who were involved and had survived this awful war were now able to travel back to their households back place. See how of import it is to cognize about the events that occurred during World War II. Peoples acquire to cognize what their grandparents lived through and how it affected them and their households. Page 4 They get an penetration on both a personal and educational degree. There are infinite veterans that would instead non speak about painful memories of those old ages when they fought in World War II. Although there are many that would be more than happy to portion their experiences with their grandchildren. World war II is a portion of our history that will neer be forgotten. We can # 8217 ; t convey back the lives that were lost, but because of them and those that survived, we came together as one and worked together to win this rough war. In my sentiment, war is something that can be prevented. By deciding jobs in a logical mode before they get out of manus is one of many ways to forestall war from go oning. We live in a universe where people think that war is the lone manner to decide major issues and jobs. We # 8217 ; ve got a long manner to travel to genuinely accomplish peace in this universe.

Space research is a waste of money. Agree or Disagree free essay sample
In this information age, space exploration is playing an increasingly important role in the immense advances of technology. But in the meantime whether it is a blessing or a curse has sparked a heated debate. Some people argued that space exploration has opened up our world and added to our knowledge, while many others claimed that space research is a waste of money. Firstly, it is undeniable that the exploitation of space has directly changed our world. Space research has already resulted in a large amount of products and has found some crucial applications. For example, the need to produce safe but efficient power resources for Apollo missions led to the development of practical fuel cells, which are now being explored as a possible future power source for cleaner cars. Besides, the need to reduce weight on rockets led to the miniaturization, and consequently to the microchip and modern computer. However, it is also one of the most expensive forms of extending knowledge. We will write a custom essay sample on Space research is a waste of money. There are plenty of earth-bound problems that deserve our attention before we go gadding about on rockets such as education, environment, protection, healthcare, and so-on. Even with a lot of inventions from space exploration, just think about the number of people who are benefiting from this? The money spent on probes to distant planets would be better invested in the people of our own planet. Our world is marred be war, famine and poverty. Billions of people are struggling simply to live from day to day. Our dreams of exploring space are a luxury they cannot afford. All in all, instead of wasting money on macho prestige projects such as space program, we must set ourselves new targets. A world free from disease, a world where no one lives in hunger, would be a truly great achievement.
