An ecosystem is an integrated system of different participants that rely on one another. In consumer research, it is almost impossible to isolate one of the many factors that make up the field of consumer research. The goal of consumer research is to learn about consumer behavior. Quantitative research, qualitative research, and ethnography each have many pros and cons, and create a full, clear picture when used together. Each method provides an integral piece of the consumer puzzle; one cannot see the entire, finished image without each method. The following is an overview of the research methods and how they can be applied to this case study. Quantitative research: study data based responses obtained through things like consumer surveys. Quant data also includes big data which provides marketers with zoomed out data that clearly indicates consumer trends. Looking at big data trends can indicate where and when both Skinny and Nasty Girl products are being purchased and by whom. This could give marketers insight into what demographics are interested in their product (i.e. socioeconomic status, education, family structure, age, etc.). While this data would indicate clear trends, it would not help marketers to understand why consumers are making their decisions. Qualitative Research: driven by asking personal questions to determine why a consumer phenomenon happens. This can happen through interviews and focus groups.
